Relay Rules

These inter club relays are a fun social competition - but with all events of this nature we need a few rules to give it some structure.  The following rules must be adhered to, failure to do so could lead to disqualification.

The Rules

  1. Runners should prioritise running in a team in their own age category, however, they can make up numbers in a team of a lower age category but NOT for an older category. In the spirit of North Devon Relays, runners should only run in one A team, however from time to time it is permissible to run in two A teams if there are insufficient runners available to make up a full team.  This doesn't include the junior categories, only juniors can run in them - A junior runner can stay as a junior for all races in the season if they were under 17 on the date of the first race of the season.  Also a Junior can run for a Senior team but not Vet team.
  2. Men will run in Men's teams and Women will run in Ladies teams.  The Mixed teams for Juniors and Over 60s can consist of any 3 runners of any gender.
  3. Each team must be made up of 4 (for Men - Sen, Vets and V50) or 3 (all other categories) distinct runners - no runner should run more than one leg in a single team.
  4. Each team is allocated runner numbers at the start of the year - all runners must wear the correct numbers for their team category - failure to do so could result in disqualification.
  5. Headphones must NOT be worn whilst running.  This is for runner and marshal safety.
